Our Roots
Khazana (the Urdu word for “treasure”) is a gallery, boutique, and community gathering space located in Minneapolis, MN. Owner Anju Kataria started collecting treasures from around the world as a child growing up in India, and continues to travel globally to meet and work with passionate craftspeople. Supporting and connecting with local and international artists is at the core of every project at Khazana.
Anju has cultivated a Khazana family with friends of all shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds. Most days are full of her homemade chai, Parle-G biscuits, curious new visitors, and lots of laughter from long visits with old friends.
Our Mission
At Khazana, we have cultivated close, long-term relationships with our sources. We sustain traditional art forms by honoring the makers and their community histories and by paying fair wages to artists for their work, thereby ensuring their dignity and financing their longevity. We have the unique opportunity to work alongside several expert artists and to collaborate with them on new designs.
By sharing the history of the objects we sell at Khazana, hosting talks and events with local and international artists, and collaborating with like-minded community partners, we bring awareness to the hard work and expertise of craftspeople.
Our Story
About 30 years ago, I founded Khazana with a vision of bringing my cultural heritage and the rich world of traditional and contemporary Indian art to Minneapolis.
At its heart, Khazana is about connecting talented artisans and craftsmen with people who value their work. We create a platform for diverse artists to share their stories, traditions, and craftsmanship with the wider community.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we launched our Tree of Life project to support artists whose livelihoods had been deeply affected. The project helped showcase their work while raising much-needed relief funds for artists and their families.
Today, Khazana continues to celebrate meaningful, sustainable, and traditionally inspired art—from paintings and prints to hand-dyed textiles and artisan-made pieces.
We invite everyone to explore and experience the world of Indian art and craftsmanship we have brought to Minneapolis.
